Business Connect roadmap

This roadmap takes us through to April 2024 and will be updated as we find new opportunities.

You’ll find the work is grouped under the goal it supports.

This roadmap was updated in January following our quarterly planning.

Goal: Save customers time

Recently shipped

  • Deep analytics now available for Business Connect platform.
  • No accessibility barriers for Business Connect platform and accessibility statement published.
  • The team enabled a form of deep linking that allows a banner to pop up to save users time in looking for a specific service.
  • We created shared tiles to reduce clutter on the landing page and make it quicker and clearer for customers to find their way to the right form.
  • Services on Business Connect that require a payment option can now include our new payment link function in their form.
  • We put Director Verification into beta on the platform to give users an alternative to the NZBN authority model.
  • Helpful pop-ups now let users know that Business Connect will remind them to renew and that they can reuse the information they supplied last time.

Working on now

  • Allowing businesses to duplicate an existing case and reuse that data for a new application.
  • Further accessibility testing with the disability community.
  • Refine customer session recordings by data analytic software.
  • Ensuring support materials and communal workspace for community of builders is accessible across government.

Exploring

  • Greater control for business users over personal settings around their data, privacy, and notifications.
  • Integration of customer feedback software for the collection of net promoter score and other insights.

Goal: More businesses using Business Connect

Recently shipped

  • Delivered 6 services for Ōtorohanga District Council.
  • Delivered 2 services for Tasman District Council.
  • Recruited 10 builders from outside our team to use FormBuilder tool.
  • Published the first form created by a builder outside our team. The eInvoicing team used the FormBuilder tool to create a form for software providers.
  • Prototyped forms for Auckland Council, ACC, Business.govt.nz, Callaghan Innovation and MPI.

Working on now

  • Switching the Deferred Payment Account service with Customs over to the FormBuilder tool.
  • Delivering a service with Auckland Council.
  • Running a private beta for FormBuilder.govt with a group of builders from across government.
  • Partnering with the New Zealand Institute of Liquor Licensing Inspectors to provide oversight of the alcohol licensing forms on Business Connect.
  • Planning a FormBuilder event as part of TechWeek in May.

Exploring

  • Delivering forms for IANZ.
  • Excise permits with NZ Customs.

Goal: Easy delivery of great government services

Recently shipped

  • Made it possible for non-technical staff to largely manage services and government service teams.
  • Created an internal facing dashboard and enabled data to be downloaded in JSON format, both individual cases and in bulk.
  • Completed a proof of concept to publish forms as a webpage to be accessible without a login.

Working on now

  • Refining the interface to allow non-technical team members to fully manage services and government service teams.
  • Design role-based access to prepare for those in agencies managing their own services.
  • Simplified methods of form building including an exploration of the use of AI.

Exploring

  • Simplified and integrated version of FormBuilder.govt tool
  • Appetite for customers to be able to complete applications and registrations from within third-party business software.
  • Agencies and councils streamlined online sign up.
  • Enhance user interface for FormBuilder within Business Connect platform.
